Thank you for your interest in Miscast Mayhem at Merrimack Valley Stageworks! Below are some tips and instructions from our music director:
Please prepare one short (1-2 minutes or approximately 32 bars) excerpt or two shorter (30-45 seconds or approximately 16 bars) excerpts of the “miscast” piece(s) you would like to be considered for.
- Choose a song that suits your voice and highlights your personal talents.
- Choose a song that you actually enjoy singing!
- Make sure it’s in the best key possible for your voice (not too low or too high). *
- Choose a song that allows you to act - you should be able to demonstrate engaged storytelling.
- Your song should (of course) be performed with proficient pitch, tone, diction and vocal clarity.
* A NOTE ABOUT KEYS: Yes, the reality of a “Miscast” show is that we will likely need to change some keys in order to accommodate varying voice types. For the purposes of your audition just do what you can with the resources at your disposal and if we decide to make adjustments we will cross that bridge when we come to it!
Technical notes: (TAPED) - Please do a SOUND CHECK before you record. Make sure your levels (both voice and accompaniment) are appropriate and your microphone is not clipping (distorting).
- Please film yourself in a location with good lighting where we can see your face.
- A cappella auditions will not be accepted. Please use a live or taped accompaniment.
Please also SLATE before you sing! Tell us:
- Your full name
- The TITLE OF YOUR SONG
- The TITLE OF THE SHOW IT IS FROM (if applicable)
- The names of the COMPOSER/LYRICIST When your video audition is complete, upload it to YouTube, marking it as Unlisted (click here for instructions) and email the link (along with your resume and headshot) to john.eldridge@gmail.com.
Please submit audition video on or before May 8, 2026! Please note the cabaret will be held on Friday, May 29th, with rehearsal being held on Wednesday, May 27th!
Good luck, and we look forward to hearing you!
